About us

Bashkir State Medical University, founded in 1932, is one of Russia's premier medical institutions as well as the Republic of Bashkortostan's center for medical and pharmaceutical sciences.

Originally, there was only one faculty: the Faculty of General Medicine. The Faculty of Pediatrics was established in 1961, followed by the Faculty of Preventive Medicine (later called the Faculty of Preventive Medicine and Microbiology) in 1970, the Faculty of Dentistry in 1976, and the Faculty of Pharmacy in 1981. 

Our university has over 8000 medical students, including over 850 international students from 40 countries, around 1000 clinical residents and PhD programs, and 7000 postgraduate professional trainings. BSMU also has a medical college that provides vocational secondary education in the fields of nursing and prosthetic dentistry.

The University has the United Center of Simulation-Based Training, which is equipped with cutting-edge simulators and allows students, clinical residents, and BSMU physicians to improve their practical abilities in neonatology, anesthesiology, resuscitation, obstetrics and gynecology, endoscopy, and neurosurgery. Since 2016, there has been a Center at BSMU for the main accreditation of doctors and pharmacists.

BSMU is a significant scientific institute that conducts both fundamental and practical research. BSMU's scientific infrastructure comprises the Central Scientific Research Laboratory, Cell Culture Laboratory, Laboratory of Experimental Surgery, Vivarium, Scientific Research Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, and Scientific Research Institute of Oncology. The BSMU Scientific Library has around 527,000 items and is one of the top medical libraries in Russia. In 2010, Ufa Medical College joined BSMU.
